What Does a $25 Minimum Mean at a Craps Table?

A $25 minimum craps table generally means that qualifying base wagers, such as the Pass Line, must be at least $25. It does not mean every wager or additional bet must be exactly $25; craps has different betting units and payout rules.

Example: a $25 Pass Line bet

Put $25 on the Pass Line before the come-out roll. A 7 or 11 wins $25; a 2, 3, or 12 loses $25; other point numbers keep the bet working until the point repeats or a 7 arrives.

Once a point is established, many tables allow an additional odds bet, which pays true odds. If you add 2× odds behind a $25 Pass Line bet, your combined live stake is $75, not $25.

What about Place 6 and 8?

Place 6 and 8 usually pay 7:6, so common wagers are in multiples of $6 to avoid fractional payouts. At a $25-minimum table, the practical minimum for one of those bets might be $30, depending on house policy. Don't assume all table signs translate into identical minimums for every bet.

Example exposure table

Bets you make Total live amount
$25 Pass Line $25
$25 Pass Line + $25 odds $50
$25 Pass Line + $50 odds $75
$25 Pass Line + $30 Place 6 and $30 Place 8 $85
All above with $50 odds and both Place bets $135

These amounts are examples of concurrent bets, not guaranteed losses per roll or universal casino rules.

What to ask before buying in

Ask the dealer: 'What's the minimum for Place 6 and 8? How many times odds can I take? Are minimums different during busy hours?' This takes seconds and prevents expensive surprises.

FAQ

Do I need $25 for every number?

No. The minimum applies to specific wager types. You choose which bets, if any, to place.

Does a $25 minimum mean $25 per roll?

Not necessarily. A Pass Line bet can remain working for multiple rolls while a point is established.

Can I play with less than $25?

At a true $25 minimum for the Pass Line, a smaller Pass Line wager normally isn't allowed. A different table or a free simulator may be a better fit.
